My Story

The person

Sariah Howell, RYT500

Sariah (she/her) is a teacher of humans big and small; guiding little ones in the classroom and  sharing yoga and mindfulness with students of all ages on the mat. She first discovered yoga during a challenging time in her life, and it quickly became a source of healing, growth, and self-discovery. Now she teaches to help others reconnect with their bodies, find strength, compassion, and mindfulness both on and off the mat.

Sariah is a 500-hour RYT who first began her yoga teacher journey in 2022 at Yoga Assets, where she is now a teacher trainer. With over 2,000 hours of yoga training behind her, she is committed to being a lifelong learner who brings curiosity, humor, and a healthy dose of skepticism to everything she learns; collecting enough wisdom to know that the more you know, the more you know you don’t know.

Her training is rooted in making yoga accessible to all, bringing the practice to spaces and communities that are often overlooked. She has taught in schools, community parks, homeless communities, refugee centers,  in studios, and at fundraisers, events, and festivals. Her classes blend movement, breath awareness, and mindfulness, and are designed to make everyone feel supported, no matter their age, ability, or experience.

When she’s not on the mat, Sariah is a mama to four amazing little humans (and a handful of fur babies), and partner to her best friend and biggest supporter. She fills her days with music, art, family, sunshine, animals, and nature, and finds joy in the calm, laughter, and occasional chaos of everyday life.

Proudly Latina and LGBTQ+

The Journey

Like many, I first found yoga through the world of fitness. I quickly discovered that when I practiced, I was getting so much more than a workout, though at the time I still only understood it as pretty poses and stretching.

In 2016, I was faced with a huge challenge when my body experienced sudden onset peripheral neuropathy and a significant decrease in mobility in my limbs. No injury, no explanation, and no answers. Over the next few years, I faced many more challenges in my health and life. On top of my new teacher neuropathy, a lifelong struggle with anxiety and depression, I also experienced a miscarriage and the loss of my father... In the same year. My heart was broken, and I felt disconnected from the world. I spiraled into a deep depression I didn’t think I would survive. I knew I had to come back to myself. That’s when I found yoga. I thought yoga would be a gentle introduction of movement back into my body, and it was... But it was also so much more...It was my gateway home.

What started as a little workout (following along to yoga videos on YouTube) quickly became a place of grounding and re-centering for me. The practice slowly pulled me out of the dark place I was in, and I slowly began to feel a little more like myself ... Eventually, I regained full mobility and no longer needed medications (Doctors approval of course). To use the words of my mentor, I went from 'heavily medicated to heavily meditated' 🤭. This profound healing experience through yoga was the very beginning of my curiosity, and it inspired me to learn more.

Fast-forward to the year 2021, 2 babies later, postpartum, another downward spiral, another crappy hand delivered by life, and neurological setbacks.... I chose to take the leap.

I signed up for yoga teacher training; The first of what would later become nine 200-hour trainings. I didn’t know then that teacher training would be everything I needed. My life changed in every way possible. My body was no longer secondary to pain, and my mind became clearer. I learned so much about myself, the world, and life that helped me heal and become more grounded, & present. I learned how grief and joy can coexist, how to move through pain without it consuming me, and how to manage my mental health challenges through breath, mindfulness, and movement. It was a profound journey home to myself. I didn't take training to teach, I took it to grow, but once I learned and experienced how truly helpful it could be I knew I wanted to teach it to as many people as I possibly could. Yoga is now a central part of my life. The tools I’ve learned continue to help me show up as a more compassionate and wholehearted partner, mother, friend, and human. I can’t wait for you to discover what your yoga journey has in store for you.

The why

The heart of my teaching philosophy is simple:

Yoga is for every body.

You don't need to be experienced, flexible, or calm to practice. You just need to be willing to show up as you are.
My classes are guided by core values that shape how I teach, hold space, and invite you into your own practice

Meet You Where You Are

No two students are the same. I offer modifications, options, and encouragement so that every person in the room feels capable and seen; regardless of experience or ability.

Breath First, Always

Movement follows the breath, not the other way around. I teach students to use their breath as a guide, a reset, and a source of steadiness when things feel hard.

Practice as a Way of Life

Yoga doesn't end when you roll up your mat. I help students carry the tools of mindfulness, self-compassion, and presence off the mat and into their everyday lives.

Common Questions

Absolutely. You don’t need any previous yoga experience to practice with me. I believe yoga should meet you where you are, so I offer options and modifications to support different bodies and experience levels. Some classes are more beginner-friendly than others, but I always do my best to teach to the people in the room. If you’re unsure where to start, reach out—I’d love to help you find the right class.

My classes draw primarily from a blend of Hatha and Vinyasa traditions, with elements of Restorative Yoga, but I teach a variety of styles. My classes can look different from one another, but they all share the same intention: creating space to move, breathe, and connect with yourself. Depending on the class, you might experience a flowing, movement-based practice or a slower, more meditative one. Check the schedule for current class descriptions.

Nope! Flexibility isn't a requirement for yoga. You don't need to be a chef to take a cooking class, and you definitely don't need to touch your toes, do a split, or look like the pictures on Instagram to belong on a yoga mat. If you have a body, and you're breathing, you can do yoga.

I always offer modifications and will work with you to ensure your practice feels safe and supportive in your body as it is that day. That said, yoga is not a substitute for medical care. If you're working with an injury or medical condition, please check with your healthcare provider about whether yoga is appropriate for you, and let me know before class so I can help you find appropriate options.

Of course! I love connecting with students. If you’re nervous, have questions about a class, or just want to talk through whether yoga with me feels like a good fit, I’m happy to connect. You’re never expected to walk into a class knowing exactly what you’re doing.
Reach out through the contact form below and we'll set up a brief call to talk about your goals and find the best class fit for you.

Whatever you feel comfortable moving in! Leggings and stretchy clothes are great, but there's no yoga dress code. I often teach yoga in sweats and a T-shirt. Wear what lets you move, breathe, and feel like yourself. That being said there are certain classes that have specific dress codes for safety (such as no jewelery or zippers in an aerial yoga class, and grippy socks required on slippery floors). Check the class/studio details for more details.

Just yourself, comfortable clothes, a yoga mat, and water. Most of the studios I work at have props and extra mats, but check the class/studio details if you're unsure what's provided.

You don't have to! The beautiful thing about a yoga practice is that it's entirely YOURS. You are always welcome to slow down, modify a pose, take a break or rest, and take care of you. There's no prize for doing the most. Everything I offer is a suggestion. I will offer lots of options, but always listen to your breath and body and make the practice your own.

Yes! My classes are a space for all bodies, backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experiences. I know what it feels like to walk into a yoga studio and wonder, “Do I belong here?” That experience has stayed with me, and I’m committed to creating classes where no one has to question whether they belong. LGBTQ+ folks, people of color, and anyone who has ever felt like they didn’t quite fit in a yoga space are welcome here. My hope is that you feel respected, seen, and free to be fully yourself while you practice.

Not at all. Yoga can be a spiritual practice for some people, but it doesn't have to be; and it definitely is not a religion. That being said, some people feel it compliments or supports their personal spiritual or religious beliefs. You do not need to subscribe to any particular belief system, spiritual or otherwise, to practice with me. Everyone is welcome here.

Yes! Private sessions offer a more personalized practice where we can focus on your individual needs, goals, and experience. I also offer semi-private sessions if you have a partner or group of friends who want to join you. Learn more about private yoga here.
